Anyone had a proper Ipod mini car kit installed?

    http://www.ihavetohave.it/acatalog/ICE-Link_Blaupunkt.html

I've tried the iTrip FM transmitter but as I generally travel on longer journeys it's not much cop as you have to keep stopping and finding a new frequency.

Just wanting to know if anyone's had one fitted and what do they reckon?

I've not had the mini-ipod one installed but have one for my G3 20GB Ipod in my Alfa Romeo. It's brilliant, I reckon, especially as it can be controlled like a cd boot changer using the steering wheel stereo controls. The best £150 (including installation) I've spent in a long time.
Before I tried the Belkin version of the I-trip but found the FM signal got far too much interference in and around London, and then tried the Belkin cassette adaptor which was good but meant loads of wires everywhere.
The in-car kit sits like a mobile phone hands-free kit and is very sturdy. I guess it's also alot safer to use when driving.

Are you sure you can't get an av input for the Mini? I know all bmw units from 03 can take one, it costs around £20 form parts and just plugs into the existing harness and gives you an aux in.

Try looking on the mini forums for info.

I rang the local BMW garage yesterday to enquire about a kit for my 3 series tourer. The kit for the mini iPod is £39.95 but takes 1.5 hours to fit at £100 per hour

Total cost, fitted - £189.95 Ouch!!

It takes 2 mins to fit mate.

    Slide stereo out
    take harness out
push the 3 pins into the harness
    done

the only thing that takes any time is taking the glove box out, but that is just 8 screws from memory, and then you just drill a small hole where you want to 3.5mm stereo jack to go.
Once the glove box is off you can reach behind the head unit to get the cable anyway.
That is if you want to put it in the glove box?
I put mine in the cubby hole below the armrest.
1.5 hours my arse!! who is your dealer??

To put it there you need to take the leather away from the gear stick surround, undo the 2 screws holding the trim in place(either wood, aluminum etc.) then with the stereo removed drop the cable down below the aircon and feed it through to that cubby hole. That cubby hole just pulls out, you have to be quite firm wuth it but if you sit in the drivers seat and pull the edge next to the passenger seat towards you and up at the same time it clicks out.
You can then drill the correct hole for it in the house and with it out you can feed the cable through from the gearstick area through.
I prefered being able to see the ipod display than it being in the glove box.

    Rydale in Cardiff.

Nice one. I think I'll order one up as I have fitted several car audio systems but just bnever taken a BMW apart. I can run the permanent power lead for my TomTom GPS at the same time then. Any tips on where to pick a 12v ignition feed up from. Radio harness??

Thanks. Don't know anywhere on line that sells the kit do you :D

Oh yeah. Any quick tips on how to take the stereo out. Are there hidden screws or an 'insertion/removal tool'?

    Thanks again.

To remove the stereo you need to take the trim off that runs above it and above the glove box.
get a screw driver with a cloth over it, put it behind the trim on the passenger and slowly pry it into the cabin ( away from the dash) once you get enough room to get your fingers behind it just work it loose.
when it is off you will see two screws holding the head unit in.

I had the 16:9 navigation unit in mine but it will be the same.
12v switched will be on the harness for the stereo.

That's half the fun, I had mine in pieces trying to upgrade the sound in it, got myself in a right panick, but it all went back fine in the end.

Best thing I did was replace the front mids and tweeters with some genesis P16's and then put a set of decent tweeters in the top of the rear c pillar, really easy to do and made a massive difference.

Not sure about the part online, sorry.

I have the Dension kit in my Alfa Romeo. I had it fitted by my sister-in-law's boyfriend who works in the business. It's a great kit that I can recommend very highly!
I too lost the ability to have a cd changer but can control the Ipod from the steering wheel stereo buttons, which I think is brilliant!
