I've got my 60gb photo iPod which I mainy use in car with the iTrip. This is ok but the quality is quite poor. Anyone know if/where I can get my car fitted with a proper hard wired connection?

It depends on your cars head unit. I have just bought a connects2 interface for my Sony HU and it makes my iPod Nano look like a big autochanger.

I've got a JVC in my car. I've found one for JVC's that have CD changers but mine doesn't have a changer and I can't find one for it.

Will it be better than the iTrip? As it's wired surely it would be pretty good. What's making it have a lower audio quality?

What sort of connector would that be? Just the normal iPod one with a jack plug type connector in the other end?

I see, so it's plugged into the top of the iPod and not the bottom. And the other end has the white and red bits that go into the back of the CD player. That looks good. Thanks for all the help.

Kenwood, among others, to a connector that lets you control the ipod from the head unit (so you can stash it out of the way), show ID tags on the HU display, and charge the iPod. Also the sound quality is very good because it's a hard wire connection from the iPod line-out into the CD autochanger socket.

    check this out

    http://www.e-bowl.co.uk/products/4760.html

it can work via your FM modulator on your car radio, or via phono in on your car radio, it has a seprate display and a seprate jog wheel which works in the same way as an ipods jog wheel. also halfords are doing it for £149.99 with free installation, brilliant machine, and a wired fm modulator works a lot better than an itrip, and i am speaking from experience of using both ,

That looks interesting but if you add the iPod to the equation that's 4 separate bits all wired together - the iPod, controller, display, and head unit - which does make a discreet installation a challenge.

Just on the subject of in car solutions im toying with the idea of hard wiring the Mrs's Nano in her car. Im thinking along the lines of the Denison Ice Link Plus and just wondered if anyone has any experience of these and firstly how they work CD changer wise .. does it disable the changer ? and is there some sort of dock seat you can use to hold it in position?

Anyone with any experience / thoughts ????

That Ice-link looks good and very similar to the Kenwood interface I bought which basically takes the place of the CD changer (though I believe I could have bought an adapter to allow both to work). The Denison looks like it comes with a nice dock/holder but to be honest I have wired it so that the iPod is stashed out of the way in the cassette holder in the centre tunnel - you don't need to touch the iPod because all the control and display is available on the head unit. Hence I didn't want the iPod on show.

the ipod doesnt need to be within reach when youre using it ( because it has external controls) so most people have the ipod connection wired into the Glove box so it is out the way, you can put the display pretty much anywhere you like and the jog control is slighlty bigger than a 50 p coin isnt huge, Halfords do an excellent job of an install making it very discreet, the only things only display will be the display unit and the jog shuttle, all the cables were hidden away
