    Hi all,

Has anyone ever seen an iPod dock connector balun to use with Cat5e please?

I would like to have an iPod dock on the bed side table, going through the Cat5e socket next to bed to the node zero, into the amp then the ceiling speakers.

I could use a normal audio balun but I also want it to charge the iPod.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

I would use a standard iPod dock and then take the phono out to the cat5 balun rather that straight out of the ipod.

Done this a could of times for clients now.

Nuvo do table-top and wall mount ipod docks that do audio and power via CAT5.

Vex - Yes but I would also like it to charge the iPod though?

Cjwood555 - I do have two iPorts, but decided not to fit them as they are 83mm deep!!! Will need a lot of chiselling of the block work to fit it in...

Yeah the Nuvo one should fit in a 35mm deep back box, 50 to be safe. But like I say, they do a table-top one.

See http://www.habitech.co.uk/files/NuVo/NuVoDock for iPod/Wired_iPod_wiring_diagram.pdf for wiring info. I guess it should work without Nuvo - just use the audio out and power jacks at the remote end. Worth asking first though as it's got some control electronics built in and could well lock the ipod front panel controls - first time we'll use one is a project currently in first fix so I can't yet tell you first hand!!

The other option is to make a custom cable for each end to break out power and audio. An audio balun only uses one pair, and one pair will suffice for ipod charging power. You could then use any dock you like.
