I'm not gonna spend £250 on a 4th gen 40gig ipod without reassurance that the battery life is somewhere near the proposed 12 hours?

    Any experience either way?

Don't buy it if your priority is long battery life and you don't want to use the many battery extension products including home made options.

I don't have a hang up on my ipod battery as I have a charger in my car and dock at home which are my main environments I listen.

I would say that 8hrs would be more closer to the mark if you 'play' with the ipod as well as playing music. Changing tracks back light all don't help conserving battery power.

Leave it alone on random/shuffle then I am sure it would come closer to 12 hrs. ;)
