I'm a little confused after a short discussion this morning and I hopeing someone will be able to confirm the following.

If I buy an iphone 3Gs (no contract) that's say locked to o2 and use my current sim card, will I have a fully functioning iphone or will I lose some functions using my present sim card. Any tips & advice will much appreciated

or buy a Pay as you Go from o2 and just use my current sim will that give me a fully funtioning iphone

I more interested in buying the phone rather than getting tired into another contract for 18/24 months.

You will have all the functions on the Iphone with your sim card, although it will depend on what tarrif you are on as regards to Internet useage costs.
For example I bought a used 3G Iphone and put my O2 sim in it which has 1200 min, 500 texts and unlimited internet useage bundle, only thing I had to do was get O2 to send me a 3G sim card, so as long as I don't use more minutes or texts I only pay my monthly subscription of £25.00.
    Hope this helps you :).

:hiya: Thank for the info, one question when you say a 3g sim card you mean a '3g network sim card', not a '3g unique iphone sim card'.

That's :smashin:, I'll buy a Pay as You Go 3Gs phone from o2 and dump the sim that comes with it.

Just posted this in another thread:

Guys and gals i have a question for you.

I will be buying a pay as you go 3G iphone off a mate soon, and I plan on using my simplicity sim card with it. However the seller is saying that I might need to get a 3G version of my simcard....is this true? Or can I just use my current simcard without any probs?

    thanks in advance people!

How do i get a 3G sim card from o2? Will it simply replace my current o2 simplicity sim card? help mmeeee!

Yes just a normal O2 3G sim, in my case despite having upgraded over anumber of years with O2 and had 3G capable phones from O2 they never deemed it nec to send me a 3G sim, it was only when I bought the Iphone and could not get a 3G signal displayed that I looked into it and found that I still had a 2G sim card.
I just went into a O2 store with my latest O2 phone upgrade (C905) and explained to them and they gave me a new sim card straight away, no cost involved.
    Hope that helps

Will my O2 600 sim with unlimited web bolt on be suitable for the PAYG 3GS? i.e can O2 track that i'll no longer be using my N95 and cancel my free upgrade that i would be due in August?

My current contract costs me £25/month and worked out that its cheaper to do it this way, that is if its possible and not lose benefits or performance.

Yes it will be fine, as thats pretty much what I have all be it mine is contract with unlimited web bolt on.
I don't think O2 have any way of knowing which phone you use.

Cool, thought that was the case but always worth getting a second opinion.
