Hi. My I phone 5 has been in a drawer for a couple of years. After a tidy out I'm wondering what to do with this phone.
The I phone 5s for some reason it will not start up. The apple logo appears then an arrow pointing to the itunes logo. The phone won't go any further.
I have connected it to i tunes on mt laptop to re set it but when loading the software back in, I get a message telling me it can't be loaded in, error 419 or something like that appears.
I have looked for answers but it seems there are software programmes that can fix this. I downloaded one only to be asked for a fee. Is there anything I could do to ix this phone. I can't sell it as it may be connected to i cloud and find phone may be on.
Kind regards Denn.

I tried everything possible but, each time I do I'm prompted with phone iPhone couldn't be updated an unknown error occurred (4013) One occasion the phone screen turned red for a second.

How about this one? It’s very important you follow every step to the T, one thing missed could mean the difference between it working or getting an error message.
I’ve had problems like this in the past with my iPhones, all of which I was able to sort out eventually

I seem to have done everything possible from using four different charging leads and three different laptops. I get a red screen then I get my hopes up but, the same unknown error 419 appears. Maybe I should take it to the genius shop and pay to get it sorted or just throw it away.

Sounds like you should take it into an Apple store whenever they reopen. If it’s just something do to with software(seems like it is), they won’t charge anything for sorting that out.

And because they are using the latest Apple computers, restoring or reinstalling software is very quick so it shouldn’t take them long.
