iPhone 5s: wifi speed much slower than iPad

As you can see from the attached images, the connection speed that my 5s shows on wifi is much slower than that shown on my iPad Air. Is this normal or could there be an issue with the handset?

I have no explanation, but can report similar with my iPhone 5 and iPad Air.

My Virgin 50Mb broadband comes in at 54Mb/s on my PC. When in good signal, my Air hits the 54 Mb/s but my Iphone 5 hits 39Mb/s.

Not a deal breaker and nothing that affects the use, but strange none the less
