4 inch retina display with extra row of icons

It was always going to happen and so it came to pass - Apple's latest iPhone has been shown for the first time.

Naturally, it's a nice bit of eye candy with its glass and aluminium construction and, to quote Tim Schiller:

"It's designed and built to an exacting level of standard unlike anything we, or anyone in our industry, have made before."

There was much speculation as to the naming of the device pre-event but it's been revealed as, wait for it......iPhone 5 and common sense prevails.

Tipping the scales at 112 grams, it's said to be the worlds slimmest smartphone and at just 7.6mm thick it's 18% thinner than their previous most slender iPhone.

As widely predicted, Apple has increased the screen real estate to 4inches, diagonally, and it will be of the hallowed retina variety at 326dpi. Across the screen will be 5 rows of icons - a one row increase - with the four short-cuts at the bottom.
