My sister in law has dropped her iPhone 5 and the screen is smashed. Has anyone had any luck getting it repaired or replaced by Apple? How much will they charge for the repair/replacement? It's a 32 GB model purchased through O2 (business plan).

Does Apple Care cover accidental damage for a lesser fee?

    Thanks in advance.

I think in the US apple care = accidental damage too but in the UK not sure. Go in to a store and ask them I would take a guess at £150 flat fee for repair. She might want to consider buying multi insurance through her bank for £10 a month its worth it for peace of mind when you have a £600 phone, also gives you travel insurance car break down cover mobile theft etc.

Thanks all. I have asked her to take it to an Apple store to find out what her options are.

localboy27: According to the Support pages, it's £186.44 for out of warranty service for iPhone 5. Ouch :(

Saahir786: Good shout. I'll ask her to find out if it's covered under business plans from O2.

Where are you based. I know a local company in Surrey who are superb at fixing all things apple.
    I trust them alot.

They do accept postal repairs but understand about sending a £500 phone through the post.

They will refurbish it for a fraction of the cost and resell it for much more.

It was dropped on to a wooden floor from a height of 3 feet. And it was in a case. Maybe they can make a £600 phone a bit more durable? Or maybe she dropped it in a non Apple-approved manner?

She dropped it, that's not Apple's fault.

What if it was a Galaxy S3, there's no cheap refurb option is there?

Apple offer the service to give you a replacement phone for a much lower price than you'd pay if you had a phone from another manufacturer.

Don't like that? Don't be clumsy.

3ft is plenty high enough onto a wooden floor to smash a glass so is always going to cause issues for a phone and does the case cover the screen at all?

I smashed the screen on my iPhone 5 a couple of weeks ago, luckily it was insured through my Bank Account.

There was a £50 excess to pay, but when I got my phone back a week later I was surprised to see they just sent me a brand new replacement complete with box, ear pods etc. I thought they would of just repaired mine rather then give me a new one.
