I have an iPhone 3GS, running on version 4.1 with Baseband 05.14.02

The phone is already jailbroken with greenp0ison

I now want to get the phone unlocked.

I have Cydia and have got the updated ultrasn0w 1.2

I understand I need to update my baseband to 06.15

    I have downloaded redsn0w 0.96 b5

I have also downloaded iPad 3.32 firmware.

I have read all of the guides, but just want to confirm before I do it.

The guide says I need to also download IPSW 4.1 for iPhone? Is this neccesary as i'm already on 4.1 and already have a JB phone so just want the unlock?

    Any other help?

I'm in the same position, not gone through the upgrade process yet.

The guides i've come across, both on redmond pie, one for redsn0w and another using the PwnageTool. Both state that you need the firmware currently installed on the iphone (4.1 or 4.2.1)

I assume this is because it will patch the baseband in the firmware and it's the only way to get the data onto the iphone.

    Just done it...

Had a hiccup running redsn0w on windows, threw an error with ntdll.dll, but ran it on my mac mini with no problems.

3GS on 4.1 now unlocked with 06.15 baseband.

I still cannot do it, its driving me mad.

I have downloaded to 4.1 FW from Apple "iPhone2,1_4.1_8B117_Restore"

I have run redsn0w in compatibility mode, as administrator but it keeps coming up with unable to recognize specified IPSW

iPhone 3GS (old bootrom I believe)
    Currently on 4.1 (8B117)Firmware: 05.14.02

    I'm using redsn0w 0.96 b5

    Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit!

    Help! :lease:

if you are running the old bootrom, you shouldn't need this.

look up fuzzyband in Cydia, it only works with the old bootrom, it will downgrade the baseband from 5.14.02, then you should be able to unlock using ultrasn0w.

If you are uncertain of the bootrom, (assuming your iphone is already jailbroken) download fuzzyband, it will tell you what version bootloader you have and whether fuzzyband can downgrade the baseband.

OK now my phone is completely f***ed

Before I got your message on fuzzybear, I tried to just restore my phone through iTunes (custom restore) back onto 4.1 from the file I downloaded from Apple Server.

My iPhone and iTunes froze during the restore, and will not get past around 40%.

I've hard reset, restarted my PC and tried again but it keeps freezing.

I dont want to update to 4.2 via iTunes!

I've tried going into recovery mode and DFU mode but nothing is working and I now have a brick. What should I do?

Is there any other way to put software on the iphone other than iTunes?

    You need this firmware: http://appldnld.apple.com/iPhone4/061-7932.20100908.3fgt5/iPhone1,2_4.1_8B117_Restore.ipsw

Download that, then you should be able to restore to that from itunes.
Hold Shift when clicking the 'Restore' button and then navigate to the above file that you have downloaded.

From there you will have a clean (locked) install of iOS4.1 to carry on with.

Why would you give me the download link for the iPhone 3G?

My post clearly states that I have the 3GS, and I have just wasted several hours and my limited bandwidth while out of the UK downloading a useless file to me!

It wont update via iTunes because its the wrong file. I do not have the 3G, i have the 3GS!!!!!!!!!!!

oh sorry good sir, I do apologise. Please forgive me. I must have made a slight mistake there whilst I was being ever so helpful.

Here we go old chap, try this one:
    http://appldnld.apple.com/iPhone4/061-7938.20100908.F3rCk/iPhone2,1_4.1_8B117_Restore.ipsw

Alternatively, you can do what the rest of us do and visit the unlock site and :rtfm:

If I didn't value the wealth of information available on this forum you sir would get the biggest verbal bashing of your life!
Next time, a simple "thats the wrong file mate, can you send me the link to the right one" will suffice... luckily, I'm in a good mood this morning.
