    Hey guys and girls,

I have a windows laptop and my iphone is currently 2.1 and I use turbosim so I can use my T-Mobile sim card,

Can someone please tell me how I can upgrade to 2.2 and preserve the baseband and also install yellowsn0w, everything I've seen so far tells me I need to use pwnage and not to use quickpwn or itunes

    :lease::lease:

    Hi mate,

You don't need to preserve the baseband when you upgrade to 2.2 - Yellowsn0w is written to work with the full 2.2 firmware, make sure you don't upgrade to the current 2.2.1 version though as Yellowsn0w doesn't work with it as is. If you are wanting to upgrade to 2.2.1 then you will need to make a custom 2.2.1 firmware with the 2.2 baseband intact and restore it via Itunes.

I used quickpwn 2.2 for mine and had no problems whatsoever (I'm on Windows Vista).

There is no Pwanage Tool for PC doesn't look like they will make one either. Will a custom firmware 2.2.1 (dowloaded) without the baseband change made with a Mac work on a windows PC ?

Yes this will work fine, doesn't matter if the custom 2.2.1 firmware with 2.2 baseband is created on a Mac and then restored via ITunes in Windows. Remember that the phone needs to jailbroken BEFORE restoring the custom firmware.

IMHO if you don't really need the fixes in 2.2.1 firmware then it's easier just to go with 2.2 as you won't need to bother with custom firmware.

That explains a lot and makes it clear now, I found a reasonably good website that had an idiots guide I found useful iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock the iPhone 3G
When the process has finished I get the full 3G signal on T-Mobile but as soon as I sync with itunes I get no signal. I've tried restoring from earlier today and also treating the phone as though it was new so looking for any advice please

Persistance finally paid off, kept on repeating the above instructions and finally I think the iphone gave in :D and decided to work with my T-Mobile sim.

One thing I have noticed is when I switch my phone off and back on it will not accept my T-Mobile sim and I have to place the o2 sim card back in the phone switch it off and then back on and it seems to remedy the problem, is anyone else experiencing this or am I just jinxed

I had similar problems with the earlier versions of Yellowsn0w, but has worked fine since 0.9.6. I'm on Vodafone though and it appears to different depending on your carrier.

Does switching airplane mode on then off again work instead? This used to work for me before 0.9.6 and is easier than swapping the sim every time.

    Hi guys,

I have gotten a new iphone 3g from my dad (doesnt know how to use it ha!) and it therefore has latest 2.2 software/firmware and baseband installed.

Could you tell me the steps i need to take to get my T-mobile sim working in it?... I am not massively bothered if I cannot get 3g working, main thing is working voice/sms.

    Cheers in advance

If your baseband is 02.30.03 then there is no way currently of unlocking, no indication on whether there will be one either. If you are on a lower baseband then check out iclarified.com - there is many helpful walkthroughs and tutorials on their site.

You need to be clear on what firmware your iPhone has, if its 2.2 then its unlockable if its 2.2.1 then it isnt.

Then you need to read the forum sticky and head to the unlocking thread.

Thanks for the reply guys, much appreciated.

Ye sadly it is both on firmware 2.2.1 and baseband 02.30.03...

Is this the case?...Will there be any chance of it being unlockable when dev team has a go at os 3?

    Cheers again

    Ah ok thanks hutch.

I think I am going to buy one of the o2 iphone pay as you go sims off ebay which gives free 3g/wifi hotspot use for a year for the time being.

    Fingers crossed they crack it!
