I read the manual thoroughly - but havent found out how to switch it off fully. Can anyone answer this?

Is pressing the button on the top sufficient?

It seems to keep connecting to MSN messenger via wifi even when apparently off!

Apologies for such a silly question!

a quick press on the on/off button turns mine off, even when wi-fi is turned on

My PDA always runs its clock when "off" to check appointments in MS Outlook. It wakes up, lights the screen and beeps at the set time even when switched off. The 4150 could have similarly been set up to check for messages on WiFi periodically.

If you took the battery out althogether as a last resort I think it would lose all of its memory and setting.

I haven't got a 4150 but I believe the settings should be similar to my 5550. Apologies if you have already done but lets give it a try. First thing to check is the settings in Activesync.

Click Start
Activesync
Tools
Options
Mobile Schedule

What are the settings for When syncing wirelessly

During peak times
During off-peak times

Both of my mine are set to Manually

Also make sure that you turn off the wi-fi signal on my 5550 there is an icon that lets me turn bluetooth and wi-fi on and off. Hopefully you have something similar.

As fas as I know the PDA will turn itself on at midnight to reset any reminders and the like.
