Is there any news regarding another iPad for the spring this year?
I already own an iPad 3 and I resisted temptation until last week and finally bought an iPhone 5 so I now have 2 devices using 2 different charging cables. Not exactly ideal so I could sell my 32g here and go buy a iPad 4, but is there anything else around the corner?

It doesn't look like there will be a release in March.

As the iPad 4 and Mini came out in November 2012, I'd guess we are a maximum of 8 months away from a new model. I'm certainly waiting for an updated iPad Mini.

That's a shame cos I'd love a lighter iPad at some point, probably won't change just yet cos I know as soon as I do a new one will be announced :/

Why would Apple have a product release cycle of 5 months?

We had two new iPads in November 2012, so why would we get another one in April 2013?

my guess is 3 and 4 are almost the same thing except minor differences, so thats a year then so hopefully a brand new lighter ipad very shortly...maybe

Apple have had an annual upgrade cycle for years for iPod, iPhone etc. iPads came out in March/April.

Just once, they have a shorter gap: 7 months. Why would they then release another product after 5 months? Sorry, but I just don't see the logic.

exactly, 5 +7 is 12 (months) as the new (3rd gen) and the newer (4th gen)iPad's never really had a number its my guess apple always intended to alter a few things mid term to follow suit with the iPhone 5's lightning connector, to me this makes perfect sense
another small clue is the fact apple still sell iPad 2's but not 3rd gen, thats because 3rd and 4th are almost the same thing
i cant recall, was there a big apple anouncement as with previous iPads when the 4th gen was released or was it fairly low key?
either way, this current design has been around since march 2011 so its due an upgrade

    From PC Pro this week:

Apple to cut iPad Mini shipments
Rumours coming out of Asia suggest that Apple is to cut production of its most affordable iPad – the iPad Mini - with commentators claiming the move heralds preparation for the iPad Mini 2. The figures are based on channel information given to DigiTimes, with Recombu fleshing out speculation of a September launch for a second generation iPad Mini

What I'd like to see from the next iPad is a redesign of the device to bring it more in line with the iPad Mini.

I'd also like to see the 16gb model dropped completely and the entry level model being the 32gb (due to the space of HD apps and the limitations of 16gb) but I doubt that would happen.

In what way? I think the difference is that they are different (as in 9.7" vs 7.9").

I've got a 64 gig iPad 3 and I've got to be honest, I genuinely couldn't care less what it looks like with regards to a Mini.

Why drop the 16 gig though?

They already offer a 128 gig and if 16 gig is not enough then you can still buy a 32 gig...

I also have to ask in what way?

If you mean smaller, you're basically talking about the next mini, and if you mean less powerful, what's the point of that?

The mini is nice, but personally I've no use for one.

I think its obvious. They want to see the 9.7" model follow the same as the Mini in design.

Basically, a whole lot slimmer and lighter than its bulky and heavy current design.

Why? For many people who only want a tablet for Internet, email, social networking (like my wife) 16GB is almost over-the-top. She doesn't store any content (music/movies) on it and only has a few APP's.

I have a 64GB full fat iPad, yet grabbed a 16GB Mini. Both hover around 90% full strangely, despite the size difference. It's horses for courses at the end of the day. Why limit their audience?

Imagining the new iPhone is to be announced around September it makes sense that May/June are the months we will most likely start hearing things.

True, although tbf they are usually announced a week or two before launch anyway.

Not expecting much until the version after the 5S anyway, and I am becoming tempted by that Windows 8 operating system. But off-topic anyway.

I'd probably still get my Apple fix from an iPad. Still waiting for my first, I think it will happen this year.

Some interesting stories appeared in the US press yesterday about some retailers cutting the price of the iPad and iPad mini by 30%. This is unusual in itself, and might indictate new models sooner rather than later.

If you look at the design of the iPad vs the Mini they are completely different. Things like the bezel size, the shape etc.

I'd love a full sized iPad with the profile of the iPad mini. Holding a "normal" iPad after the mini and the difference is immediately noticeable.

Well the 32gb would hopefully be priced the same as the current 16gb one, 16gb on a device like an iPad just wouldn't seem enough.

For browsing its perfectly fine. I have a few apps + tv shows saved on my 16gb and I've been getting along fine for the past few months. The problem comes if you want to store lots of photos and apps and music as well. I have my iPhone for that :)

Precisely. In my house there are 3 x 16GB iPad 2's and my 32GB iPad 3. I had originally intended to get a 16GB iPad 3 but decided on a 32GB "just in case". Nearly a year on I've only used just over 7GB so a 16GB would have done.
The key thing here is that all our iPads are wifi only models. They never leave the house and all the media content played on them (music and movies) is streamed from a NAS.

If our iPads were 3G models and regularly left the house I've no doubt extra memory would become more important to us and you could argue that the 3G models might be better having a minimum 32GB, but I think Apple probably sell enough entry level 16GB iPads to justify its existence and protect their margins on the more expensive ones.

I always told myself 16GB would be enough, but next time I'll be going for 32GB minimum. I've currently got 2GB free on my iPad 2. Barring a handful of iBooks, the space is all taken up by apps and photos. No other media at all.

I'm not a huge gamer, but I've got some which are approaching 2GB - FIFA, Max Payne, GTA, for example. I'm now at the point where I can't update some of my apps because I don't have enough available space, and can't get all the ones on that I'd like either.

Always said I wouldn't mind managing my apps for space reasons, and it hasn't been a problem until more recently. Now, with a few larger apps, it is getting a bit tiresome. That said, I do still think the £80 difference between 16 and 32GB isn't necessarily worth paying just for the sake of what is, ultimately, a trivial inconvenience.

If I'm not mistaken, Apple promised to release some kind of Lightning connector.

They need to scrap 16gb now to keep in line with the quality of games their new processors allow. Next gen we will see games exceeding 3GB probably.

Personally I'd always go 32gbminimum. 32 seems perfect.

There are plenty of iPad owners who aren't in the least bit interested in playing games on the device, myself included.
