    Possibly not with those wheels/tyres!

At least it's got a reasonably normal interior.

I considered this, thought about waiting, but I ended up going for a RR Velar, and very happy with my decision.

I read an interesting comment a few weeks ago, when a lot of motorists were stuck on the M74 due to bad weather, and it seems all the more pertinent now. It asked, "What would have happened to all those people stuck overnight in the cold if they had electric cars? Would they have been able to heat themselves like you can with a petrol or diesel vehicle?"

I don't want to hijack the thread, but I'm interested to know the answer to that.

Yes, the heater in the Leaf for example is very efficient, and as you can turn on climate control independently from "firing up the engine" would run for many hours so long as you were 50% or more charged up.

Same as any other car if you happen to be very low on charge your stuck, but otherwise your be fine. Infact onewarmed up EVs are really efficient at keeping warm.

Thia guy is a bit nuts but he slept in his Tesla overnight at -16degrees with interior heating set to 20 degree+. Only used 1.5KW per hour, so with a full charge the car will keep you warm at -16degree for over 2 days in a car with a battery as big as Tesla/iPace (70kWh+ in the battery).

I always aim to arrive at my destination in winter with over 20% charge, this gives more than enough buffer for traffic jams/detours.

Sleeping in Tesla Model X in -17°C/1°F

Yes I would rather be trapped in an EV rather than an ICE

The Zoe uses just over 1Kw per hour running the Climate at 22c and having the heated seats on when stationary at 0c So if the battery was 50% full that would give about another 20 hours till battery depleted (40 hours if the battery was full)....

There is also option on the Zoe of turning the car off totally to stop ancillary consumption and just hit the preheat button on the keyfob which heats to 28c for 10mins and stops. (Do that once an hour and it keeps you really toasty and reduces consumption to a couple of 100watts per hour)

Or indefinate if you had done the sensible think and stopped at the services when the weather got really bad and plugged into the charger ;-)

No Carbon Monoxide Poisoning to worry about.

Not that 0-60 is particularly relevant but I've just watched a YouTube video of the Jaaaag beating two Tesla Model X's to 60 and back to 0 again.

I presume the ipace is lighter though...

Anyone got any idea when these will be on the road? - I can't seem to find anything concrete, even for the "first edition" cars ...

The 'race' is just a marketing stunt. The iPace is a 5 seater car thats about the same size as a Q5, the X is a 7 seater and slightly bigger than a Q7.

Its a shame Jaguar didnt choose to 'race' it against one of their combustion SUVs. The focus of the marketing really should have been buy this over a diesel.

Early deposit holders are been told June, though other people are been told late 2018/early 2019. Only real way to find out is pony up the deposit and wait.

It also remains to be seen just how efficent the iPace is in the real world. Currently the Ioniqi is king, 4.5-5 miles per kWh, if Jag can replicate that your looking at nearly 400 miles of range!!!

But the 'official' range is been quoted at 300 miles which is lower than i expected for a smallish car. 100D X has a slightly bigger battery, but a larger car, offical range is 351 miles.

I'm a great believer in non verbal communication, unless you've been trained most people's body language often reflects their true thoughts about something much clearer than what ever the mouth is saying....

This is a screenshot of some Jaguar marketing man answer the question regarding range, his reply I believe was something like 492 km. He has all the right body language, leaning forwards to the presenter, looking engaged, making eye contact, all the right signs to say - Yes believe in me and my words. But look at Ian Callum, am not sure who he is looking at, but clearly he is not thinking the same as the guy next to him.

Guess we wil find out soon!!

It did look a bit staged... Although I can't see the point in doing it as they will get found out eventually.

I've also never understood why they (Tesla and now Jaguar) use speed to sell an electric car...

To convince people it's not a milk float. Tesla has already "proven" the X is a match for an equivalent ICE, so it's quite a clever marketing stunt to "prove" the IPace is more nimble IMHO, even if it's a completely spurious comparison.

    Well yeah I guess so...

But there's a milk float and there's the ludicrous ludicrous mode!

I think it's range (and price) that's stopping people buying EV's not necessarily the acceleration.

What do you mean by decent? There are already a few to chose from and several more on the way, the government are looking into the possibility to increase the maximum weight restriction on UK licences to cater for the additional weight on the batteries etc to make them a more viable option

Decent as in... nice interior, reasonable performance, 150 mile plus real world range.

If I did buy a new van I would sell my car as well as my current van so I'd want something better than the only two I've found at the moment. Renault Kangoo and Nissan ENV200.

What others are on the way?

Electric van guide - everything you need to know details merc and VW amongst others coming over the next couple of years, range seems to be the limiting factor, but any tradesman working in and around city should be looking if these are viable options

Thanks, it seems they're either too big or too basic. Unfortunately all my work is rural areas, building sites as well with no option to charge during the day.

I did have a look at that, not the most desirable van though. Still aimed more for towns/cities.

Get a nice diesel for now. I’m sure in theee years time there will be more choice. Hmm perhaps six years ;)

Similarly for cars besides what Tesla has done it is still very limiting. It’s getting close but still so far away for general adoption in my opinion.

Had a chat with a Jag iPace driver at Leicester Forest East Services last night, one of the prototype cars, was trying to get the Rapid charger there to work, everytime it plugged in the rapid tripped out.

He said its something they are still having issues with and compatibility with some of the chargers is a bit hit and miss at the moment (Had to laugh as that is the main complaint about the Zoe as well).

Anyway offered to tap him into the AC Post but he had enough power to continue so toddled off without a charge.

Does look like a nice bit of kit though. Too Big for me but will suit families
