The Clint Eastwood directed ‘Invictus’ arrives on UK Region free Blu-ray with an excellent 1080p VC1 encode framed in the widescreen 2.40:1 aspect ratio. The colours of the South African landscape are accurately reproduced as is the look and feel of the country. Skin tones look great as does contrast, although grain pops up now and again in this faithful transfer to the director’s intention. The DTS HD MA 5.1 surround track gives us good, clear dialogue from the centre channel while surrounds are generally used discretely to add atmosphere but really come alive at the rugby matches. A rousing score by Clint’s son Kyle and Michael Stevens lifts the heart at the right moments. A fine brace of featurettes and a PIP track provide background information on the film that will delight movie buffs and historians alike. Morgan Freeman’s riveting performance as Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon as Captain of the Springboks, Francois Pienaar, together with a cracking script make this true life story of a nation united by sport. A must see.

Gran Torino was recognized by the American Film Institute as one of the Ten Best Films of 2008.Clint Eastwood's performance has also garnered recognition. What a man!

Good film which I really enjoyed. Only one letdown, the actual rugby match. Too much silence from the players and just what was the ref giving the penalties for. Perhaps Clint should have got someone in to give the laws of this wonderful game. So I can only give it 4.5/5.
