International channels with Dreambox 800HD

Hi all,

I'm new to this site, so if I've posted this thread in the wrong section, please tell me.

I just wanted to ask if I could receive channels from other countries such as America and Canada. For example, my Dreambox is working fine and is hooked up to my Sky satellite and receiving all channels as it should be. However, I want to receive AMC (american channel) to watch The Walking Dead and Disney XD Canada for my son, because they seem to air some programs in Canada before the UK. How do I go about doing this?

Kind regards

Not possible. Try something like hola and go to websites like CBS

Hi and welcome to the forum where your enquiry is fine.
Satellites intended for the US and Canada use a different technology and are not accessible from the UK.

For a start the US satellites are above the USA not Europe. The earth, according to Google, is round not flat!

The satellite positions that are used by the American (North & South) & Canadian broadcasters [& the Caribbean] can be over UK & Western Europe longitudes over the Equator as far this way as about 10e-15e & we can see satellites from the UK on US longitudes up to about 83w. It's dish size more than anything, if they send a beam this way it's usually easily received on a small dish with line of sight & if it's just beamed to the States, the dish size can be much [much] larger.

There's been a large shift from the old big dish c band systems to the small dish KU band systems like we use here & like here, there's KA band use now. They use linear & circular polarization- circular can be received on basic receivers but it works better with a piece of plastic in the lnb.
