IDTV's like SKY and DVD use MPEG-2 which is a YUV format. Analogue TV is a composite broadcast signal. This is colour (UV) is seperated from the signal thus leaving the detail (Y). This information overlaps and this is why you get effects like cross colour and dot crawl. It can be improved with comb filters but it will never be as good as seperated component signals.
