    I've never cracked open an MCE remote receiver to reveal the naked PCB but I am betting that this is exactly what they are selling.

    The internals to the MCE remote are different. But there's nothing to stop you crack one open and acheiving the same result. If you have access to a crimp tool you can even cut off the long USB lead and add a motherboard header - the cables are handily colour coded witht he std red/white/green/black USB cable header colours.
