I have only had a PTAE100 for a couple of weeks now and find it excellent. I have a 80" screen.

I have been using a EBench KH777 player as the source. This has progressive scan and looks wonderful. However, it is very tempermental and can fail on some DVD's. I have a Sony NS900 that plays everything but doesn't have PS scan.

I put a cable on the Sony to compare and the picture looks a bit blurry. Subtitles are not sharp. I put the same cable on the EBench and it looks fine. Subs are sharp again.

The strange thing is I tried the Sony earlier with a temporary screen and it looked fine. The screen was much closer though.

I have read what PS scan is, is this a difference between interlaced and PS scan?

I know that. That is why I said I know what progresive scan is. However, it doesn't cover why interlaced looks blurry on my PJ (it also doesn't cover PJ's)?

All projectors display deinterlaced pictures (progressive scan) it's just that a progressive signal from a DVD player is often better than the projectors onboard deinterlacing capability.
I think there will also be less processing stages to the source.

Yes I think I also have one of these, did you get it from Lidl?

I compared mine with my much more expensive Toshiba player and connected to my H30 projector, the difference was only slightly in favour of the Tosh, it looks like a pretty good cheapo player.

I have to say that was with SCART RGB though and I didn't compare component sources.

    Yes.

For some reason the picture from the Sony is better than before. However, if I put subs on and there is two lines. The top one is definitely blurry whereas the bottom line is sharp. Both lines in PS scan on the Ebench are fine.

I wonder if it is to do with the fact I use the legs at the front of the projector to raise it?

BTW, the Ebench does have problems with some DVD's as the drive is rubbish (a cheao Sanyo one).
