Interesting fanless PC case from Zalman

Not quite as insane as the last passive case I saw, that was essentially a huge box made from think heatsinks and covered inside in heatpipes. :)

Fitted a normal ATX board though.

A good quality case and some big silent case fans could be purchased for less than half that price and probably give better performance.

E.g. the Lian Li Silent Plus Alu (6070)case - £100+VAT
Thermaltake Xaser Silent Purepower 480W PSU - £50+VAT

Unless you're sitting with the computer right beside your head I can't imagine a combination like that would ever be noticed in terms of noise.

I wouldn't touch that PSU with a barge pole......

Fair enough - I'm not up on the current best quiet PSU. I was just giving it as an example...guess I picked a bad 'un.

Anyway, my point was that you could get a very good case and PSU and still spend about half the price of the Zalman case. Up to about £100 for a PSU and you're still at half the price of that case.

but what price for a near-silent CPU heatsink (£50?) and near-silent? (£10+ each) - add all that in and you start getting closer to the total

The TNN300 is currently quoted at £530 inc VAT.
I still hold that, for around half the price - £265 - you could put together a system that would be pretty much equivalent to most people's perceptions.

'Nough said. Don't want to come to blows on this ;)

If it helps, yes the TNN300 looks like a nice solution. I just think it's too expensive unless you have money to burn.

you could do this by sticking it to the side of the TN300 I guess
