Mod please note that this is not a for sale thread but given the apparent drop of interest in crt on these forums I just want to gauge any potential interest

I have the chance of picking up two Barco 808s along with three Sony G70s over the weekend of October 8/9th. I will be keeping the Sonys ( at least two and probably all three - sorry!) but before I go to the time and trouble of buying, removing and transporting the Barco's I wanted to gauge the amount of interest they would generate on this forum? They will have around 8,000 hours on them (guestimate) and come with remotes ( definite) - they were installed and maintained by Saville AV - I would not be looking for a fortune but would appreciate any suggestions for a reasonable price to offer them for spares/rebuilding before I say I will take them ?

    thanks for any advice

    Paul

They don't have bulbs or lamps matt. These are CRT's
No offence but were you thinking of digital PJ's?

    Cheers,
    John.

Will check whether they are data/graphics models later this week and post answer - pretty certain they are BG808s model but will have to double check

Tubes will be toasted after 8000 hours of sim time!

"Tubes will be toasted after 8000 hours of sim time!"

So no trouble in matching those on eBAY ;)

Keeping all those G70's is just plain greedy Paul!

    FYI:

Graphics 808s 's with toasted tubes are pretty close to useless for anything other then parts machines since the tubes (Sony's) can't be rebuilt like they can for Data 808s 's (which use MEC tubes). You have to buy the Sony tubes new (very expensive).

There are some enterprising individuals that have put MEC tubes or rebuilt MEC tubes from VDC into G808s 's, but it requires a tube pinout change and re-machined CRT mounts.

You *may* get lucky and one the machines may have been a backup machine that was hardly used, but if the others were used in a simulator then even with only 2-3K hours they're going to have odd uneven wear rendering them useless for HT use without replacing at least the B and G tubes.

I have no problem with this so far, but obviously if you end up selling anything then please keep it on the classifieds.
