Interconnect upgrade recommendations?

Hi all,

I've finally woken up to the idea that my hifi might sound better if I ditch the leads that came in the box. So, could anyone recommend some nice interconnects that would go with...

Marantz PM7200 amp
Marantz CD5400 CD player
Pure Digital DRX-701ES DAB tuner
Squeezebox 2 streaming box

Wharfedale Pacific Evo 30 speakers (via QED silver anniversary, single wire)

Some provisos:
- Should ideally be available in 1.5m - otherwise it won't reach!
- Also, the system is a quite bass-heavy at present - any way I can iron this out?

Really appreciate you help! Cheers :smashin:
Steph

PS from my reading, QED Qunex2's seem to fit OK - any good in this system?

Interconnect-wise, the cheap nasties that came in the respective boxes.

I only realised my crime when I found that the CD player sounded much better than the Squeezebox, only because it came with a slightly less nasty interconnect - matters reversed when I swapped the leads. I'm now intent on replacing the lot.

Buy 2 of these cables above for a 1.5m pair of ICs (I did for my pre-outs to subwoofer) £12 + PP. Dont spend any more than £20 on a set of ICs - that direction lies madness and ruin :smashin:

As for your system sounding bass heavy dude, well try moving your speakers about to rid the room of bass boom, no cable (IC or speaker) changes will effect bass problems as you describe honestly. Sounds like system components not gelling well.

CJ is spot on. If you want what are technically some of the best interconnects around then have a look at what Mark Grant sells in the Power Buys section of this forum.

Being too bass heavy is definitely not something to deal with through cables. Once you have the right cable that's up to the job intended (which really doesn't have to cost much) then you won't get any benefits from spending more on irrelevant technology. :)

Thanks guys!

A refreshingly different view from the usual 'the more expensive, the better'. Will certainly save me some cash...

I agree the bass issue is probably not easily rectified. Suppose I'll have to wait 'til I move somewhere with a living room large enough to do the speakers justice ;)
