So I am looking at getting a new laptop and I am looking at ultra books as i travel alot and need something compact.

I dont play alot of games on my laptop but once in a while there will be something I want to play that isnt on ps4. Is a laptop with 5500 intel graphics going to be able to play games even at low settings?

I am looking at getting an xps13 with i7 and 8gb

    Thanks

it really depends on the game. .. I have a similar spec but wouldn't think it's capable of much. things like retro games or stuff with simple graphics would be ok. anything meaty would probably be unplayable. look on you tube ands you'll see the kind of stuff people have tried. also notebookcheck normally test gpus or and report on framerates and quality

@doubleup_dan IMHO the xps-13 is grossly over priced for what you are getting. Try looking at the ASUS Zenbooks range. You can get the ux303ln (has a discrete GPU GTX860M) for around the same price or even a European grey import for a lot less. Also the i5 5200 range CPUs are far better value for money and perform only slightly lower than the i7. It's even worth considering getting one with a HDD or 128GB SSD and buying your own 512 SSD to replace it.

It's an ultra book he's after I'm afraid the MSI GT70 is a 17 inch gaming Laptop. Plus it only has a FHD display the Dell has a QHD display. Although why anyone would want QHD on a 13 inch display puzzles me. I have QHD on my Galaxy note4 and its a wonderful display but it seems a bit pointless tbh.

If you tell me what the base requirements are I'll advise on a few. I've spent the last 4 weeks researching laptops before I bought mine so feel like I'm an expert at the mo lol.

you might want to try something from pc specialist - I have one of their 17" beasts of a laptop but you can configure a 13 incher with a 960 in it for well under a grand. it also has one of the regular mobile i7s in rather than the ultra low power ones.

I actually have an hp spectre as my portable machine. I had bought (as mentioned above) a beast of a gaming laptop but found that when I went away lugging it about was just too much.

My HP Spectre is an i7 13 incher with intel hd graphics on board, lasts 10ish hours on battery and can play some really low powered stuff. It is a fairly light convertible and I got a cracking deal on it when I was in America. When I am away with work or the family I can just focus on my back catalog and some low-powered but still brilliant games (like South Park, Child of Light, War of Mine, Torchlight...etc.) I figure playing GTA V I'd rather do on a big screen .... I could also do some work on it too :)

Thanks alot for all the help. The reason I was looking at the xps is the size of it though 13" screen in a 11"inch body and how thin and light it is.
