has anyone else tried to insure a second hand purchase for breakdown coverage?
I don't blame you for wanting to insure such a nice item, I would hate to lose mine. What would I replace it with for the £200 I paid for it?
I did contact Toshiba about an extented warranty on an existing purchase and they put me through to the insurance company they use (London General Holdings 0208 247 9888) but they said they only do them on their tv's. They did however say I may be able to add the cover on to my home contents policy or take out a seperate policy with either Domestic and General or Cornhill .
I gave D&G a ring on 0870 607 5566 (also on the web https://www.domgen.com/index.html ) and they said they did not mind if the player was not a just bought item (I've had mine for about 9 months) but did ask if it was in good working order and did not request a receipt, even though I have one. I did not ask if they would insure a used bought player though. Anyway they quoted the following prices for repairs only (I did qoute a £200 purchase price):
4 years on top of manufacturers 1 year cover : £62.10
3 years " " " : £55.80
2 years " " " : £44.10
1 year " " " : £33.30
Hope that helps some!
exactly what i wanted to hear cheers mate
Something else to consider is how long the manufacturer will hold parts to enable repairs on the player to save paying for too much warranty. Toshiba's parts distributor is SEME, I tried to get in touch with them today but their offices are closed (Mon-Fri 9-5, 01280 826 004 + 0166 4484 000).
