I thought claiming would affect future premiums?

It really depends - if you have bonus protection then it wouldn't - but any claim you make may it be through your home policy or any other insurance policy has a knock on affect on your premium - all claims are registered against you in a database that all insurance companies have access to.

To be honest your premium wouldn't rise that much if you put a claim in. All insurance companies work on its the fact that your making a claim not the cost of the claim that affects your policy - so if the claim is for £500 or £5000 its gonna affect your policy the exact same way.
