After losing my Toshiba 42XV505 LCD TV to local scum I'm at a quandry.

I liked this TV, it was good.

    However

Having been paid out at its original retail value (£750) I'm in a position to get a better model.

I've been looking at the 42RV555 and on paper its a far superior model but I cannot find any useful information or opinion on it.

What are my other options? It took me a while to finally decide on the XV after months of reading horror stories on here from samsung owners.

I'd appreciate some sound advice thanks.

Considered a different model? Ie Samsung ... Sony ... Panasonic?

£750 will get you a Samsung 686, a Panasonic TH42PX80 ( or PZ80 ) or a Sony KDL40W4000 all of which are better screens than the toshiba....

Thing is I'd ruled out Samsung a long time ago. From reading threads on here there are still owners struggling with problems and from what I've seen on the high street the Sony TVs aren't that much better than the toshibas.

I have this theory that if a TV can look good in comet etc when the signal is split between 30 odd TVs at once then its a good tv. You are seeing it at its absolute worst and anything you throw at it will be better than that.

I was hoping to shave a bit of cash off the purchase price. Maybe I can just buy the XV555 again?

    Hi,

Have you seen the review of the 42zv555db in the latest (Issue 343,March) issue of what Video?
    They seem to like it.
Their negatives points sum up as "Underpowered Audio,Occasional black level issues and an Ugly Freeview EPG.
On the plus side given its features and overall decent performance its a bargain.
Thats if you like and want to stay with Toshiba.

    Just a thought,

    KH

as far as I was aware the 555 and 505 are technically identical, the difference is cosmetic.

I was hoping the RV was just an overall better set adding 100hz to the mix.
