Anyone got this type of gear in their loft? If so, any potential
problems I should be aware of before I go ahead and put one in.
The loft seems the ideal place to house lots of ugly CAT5 cable
    connections.

I have a fused connection already fitted for my tv aerial distrubitor.

It depends on what the conditions are like up there. If it gets very cold or damp it probably wouldn't be good for the electronics in the long term. Having said that, they're pretty cheap these days, so might be worth the risk to save the mass of spagetti.

I put mine under the stairs with the router. Accessible for reboots but out of sight.

Mine is in the loft, as it generates heat it keeps itself warm and dry. Also up there is the wireless hub, broadband router, satellite multswitch, TV distribution and ISDN all running off a small UPS.
