Well the IR sent me a letter 4 days ago saying I had overpaid to the amount that I paid in Feb. Confused the hell out of me. Yesterday, I wrote to the tax person that deals with my tax and asked him what was going on? Last night I recieved a cheque from the IR of 25% of the amount that I had paid in Feb. Even more confusing. Today the tax person's right hand girl wrote an email back to me saying that they sent the overpaid letter out before they processed my return and that after they processed the return they posted the cheque for the amount I have actually overpaid. Still confused by anyway.

So........I have a cheque....hmmm...should I buy the speakers and amp that I want:smashin: or shove the cash into a saving account for when the revenue say they want it back because I owe them:thumbsdow?

I love the IR. Chased me for 6 months for £1000 I didn't owe them ... then every time I rang up about it, was told not to bother: my SA hadn't even been processed, 5 months after it was submitted!

Turned out that in the end (mmm, nice tautology there!), they owed me £7.30. Which they still haven't paid me, 5 months on!

Just got a letter telling me I didn't actually owe them 350quid in national insurance payments for 04/05... 3months after I got a letter telling me I did owe them.

I knew they had cocked up so I had ignored it anyway:rolleyes:

You have to specifically phone and tell them to pay you the money, else they will just sit on it. Not sure that they will actually pay you that amount though.

Make sure you really don't owe them the money because they paid me back some money and 6 months later said that actually they sent me back too much and charged me interest on the overpayment.

Oh don't get me started on HMR&C!!!

I've just spent the best part of 3 months getting them off my back.

I'm a good boy. Always 1 employer, PAYE, bog all savings. Anyway, out of the blue last December (nice timing guys...) got hit with a huge demand for unpaid tax, and FINES for non-payment going back 5 years!!!

After a LOT of faffing around, it seems that about 5 years ago I moved into the upper tax bracket, so IR decided that I should fill in a self-assessment form. Unfortunately they sent said form, plus 13 reminders, plus fine, plus following years' forms, reminders and fines, to the address I used to live at FIVE YEARS AGO.

    Gits.

    Thankfully now resolved

stick it in a high interest account and then keep the interest. although this depends on how much it is and might not be worth it. (this is not me asking you to reveal how much )

Hmmm, don't think the interest would amount to much. It is pretty easy to deduce the amount as it would buy me the amp and speakers that I say I want in my sig.

Nah, can't do that mate. Once I became a British citizen the South African government revoked my citizenship there.

I bet they didn't take back Charlize Theron's citizenship even though I am quite sure she is now an American citizen.
