I noticed that a couple of the mid-range amplifiers reviewed in this months HCC had infra-red input and output ports. Are these used to relay infra-red commands when equipment is used in a cabinet? How do they work? I will be putting all my home cinema gear in a cupboard soon (well, everything except the TV) and I'm wondering how I can continue to use my Pronto to control everything without having to leave the cupboard doors open all the time.

Any help you can offer would be apprciated.

    Regards

    Rob

You would need an IR receiver, the most expensive part usually, to connect to the IR input, and you can sometimes daisy chain the euqipment together, sometimes only same brands work together. Or if it has an IR outup you may be able to get an IR transmitter and connect that.

You will have to consult the amps manual, or ask the particular company involved.

    Hope this helps.

I use an infra red transmitter and receiver package I picked up from Argos.
It converts infrared to radio and then back again.

Works a treat, and also means I can move the transmitter to any room.

Thanks. Hopefully this will make it a little easier to install my kit in a cupboard. Do you know if any DVD player have IR input/outputs, or is it mainly amplifiers?

    Regards

    Rob
