Infocus 7205 firmware upgrade help

I have an Infocus 7205 and a SP-DVI-A cable. I am trying to upgrade to the latest firmware but I am having major issues.

Everytime I power up the PJ while holding in the Keystone buttons (to put it in boot mode) the PC sees a new USB device but says that it is not functioning properly. If I go into device manager and update the drivers it fails saying that it can't find a better match etc.

Meanwhile the Infocus util is still waiting for a connection. This is the same on two different laptops.

So, do I have a duff PJ, cable or am I just doing something wrong?

When you unzip the upgrade there is usually a pdf document giving the step by step instructions. Usually at the stage where it detects the USB device you have to install the driver from a specific location in this case the folder where you unzipped the files. You need to follow all the instructions carefully because you might render the machine defunct and have to send it in for repair.

Thanks, followed the PDF to the letter, but instead of the hardware wizard starting it finds the USB device and then states it isn't working properly.

Tried that too but it always says the USB device has failed.

Thanks Jim, tried that too and also removing certain USB elements but nothing seems to work. The exact message is "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message."

When I click it, it offers to update the drivers which I point it to the folder of the firmware and it then says there is no better match.

Well I was a little foolish and I may have paid the price - I got a connection once (I don't know how, it just recognised the 7205 suddenly) so I started an upload which didn't really get started (it just sat there for an hour). I stopped it and now the PJ won't fire.

If I put it in upload mode the PC still fails to recognise it properly but does acknowledge the same failed USB device (so I think if I can solve the core issue I may be able to resurect the firmware in it).

It would appear though that the issue is firmly with the PJ and has been all along - of course Infocus may not see it that way now with a borked fw.

Anyone got any further thoughts on what I should do next?
