    Hi,

Thinking about getting a notebook pc for the missus. It is just for uni work and eventually for teaching, so just needs to be able to run word, powerpoint etc on it.

I would like it to have a wireless network card and a dvd rewriter, network card a must, rewriter a plus.

Any ideas? Looking to spend about £500

had a look at dell, but don't really fancy them TBH, won't touch pc world with a bargepole either.

Any help would be great. Many thanks.

I know it's a bit out of your price range (but not by much) have you considered an iBook? I use a 12" powerbook and have never looked back at a pc since receiving it? The 12"ibook is currently £699 but you'd qualify for the Student price which'll knock a fair bit off, dvd cd/rw drive built in, wireless etc, and what's more you'll get iLife '05 with it!

If you need any help just gis a shout.

Im also looking to buy a notebook PC for Uni work. And some possible gamin?
I looked at several makers and the chepest with the most power seem to be Dell and IBM.

    Specs wise i looked at a Pentium M with about 512mb RAM, 40 or 60gig HDD, and a 64 or 128mb GPU.
    B5 or A4. 12" to 15" LCD. resolution between 1024X768 and 1600X1200.
It can make a huge difference so think about exactly what you need.

If u need good battery life then a pentium M is the best choice. You can get a good 3 to 5 hours from one of those. If u choose celeron, it will be cheaper but less reliable and less battery life.

That should cost roughly 500 or 600 quid.

I have a toshiba laptop with a celeron proccessor which is very good. It can run some of the most advance games and is very reliable.

I have to admit the battery life is shocking, 2 hours on a good day
