Denon communicated details in the apron of the IFA to the Upgrade kit for the AVC-A1SE: Thus it covers Dolby ProLogic II, alternatively with or without THX post office processing. With the auxiliary function " Dolby Headphone " is now also possible for Surround sound via headphone. Also the top model is after the update in a the position to decode DTS 96 kHz/24-Bit-Software. The high armament of the THX post office processing for DTS IT is rounded off Discrete 6.1. Starting from start of 2002 the update should be available, a price is not certain.

This translation from German to English is courtesy of Babel Fish, no me! It's pretty amazing isn't it? I wonder what "Post Office Processing" is though??

How come Area-DVD has all the scoops? Reiner has often kindly informed us of various new pieces of kit from this source. Why can't HCC have a few spies out there too??

If this really is the official announcement perhaps Hayden Labs will know something on Tuesday morning? Retro did intimate that this might be the case after the German Hi-Fi show.

    Regards

PS Mr Denon please note:- The Onkyo TX-DS989 flagship update is FREE as seen in another of my translations!

"Thus one imagines exemplary kundenservice: As admits in the context of the IFA officially became, the DTS IT is free Discrete 6.1/Dolby ProLogic II update for the flagship TX-DS989 by 31 October 2001 for all owners of this AV aV-Receivers. The customer can turn concerning the update to the specialist dealer, with which he acquired the device, with authorized Onkyo workshops the Upgrade is then executed. Since June produced TX-DS989 has both features in series also on board, without the price of 7500 DM changed upward - here everything remains with the old.

I have just spotted this posted today, on another forum by O Font who was actually at the IFA show in Berlin.

    Note that it's still 'unofficial'!

"As for the upgrade and the AVC-A1SE/AVR-5800, Denon is still working on that one. And the reason why the upgrade will not be free and even cost some bucks/pounds are quite understandable now. The AVR 4802/AVC-11SR uses Sharc processors just like the AVC-A1SE/AVR-5800 with one little but impotant difference. They are newer models and run much faster. Only because of that the AVR 4802/AVC-A11SR can have some of the new features we still miss on the AVC-A1SE/AVR 5800. The plans are to lift the AVC-A1SE/AVR 5800 with the upgrade on the feature level of the AVR 4802/AVC-11SR by changing the complete digital board. The board will have the new faster Sharcs and contain the new software for all the features. The quality will stay the same, meaning that the AVC-A1SE/AVR-5800 will still have it's differential DAC mode which is still unique on a receiver today. This is not yet official, an announcement is to be made around November. In Germany the price could DM 1000,- and higher, around US$ 500. (This is around £320). So let's just wait a little longer to see what happen. One last thing regarding the AVR 4802/AVC-11SR is that this unit is not upgradable!!! So do not even think about it!"

"Ok, I am back from the IFA show in Berlin, the biggest elektronic consumer show in the world where I visited the show durring 2 days. I guess I am a lucky man because of course I went to the Denon exibition and had a chance to hear and see the AVR 4802 or better how it is called here, the AVC 11 SR live in action.
Now let me say that this is a very well done surround amp with all the latest formats on board, even those for wich not one single sofware sample exists, DTS 96/24.
So they made a generall surround presentation and demontrated DPL II. And I have to say that DPL II is very nice for music, this is for sure. Also DPL II cinema can have THX post processing activated. Unfortunatly they didn't do any DTS ES presentation with THX post processing so can't say anything about that.
But to all those who are thinking the AVR 4802AVC-11SR can compete with the AVC-A1SE/AVR 5800, I have to say that if you would have seen both side by side with open top cover like I did, you would know why the AVR 4802/AVC-11SR is much cheaper than the AVC-A1SE/AVR 5800. So no danger from that direction, but from another to which I will come in a moment. Regarding upcoming danger: I am also happy that I could listen to the new Pioneer Flagship receiver VSA AX 10."

So watch out Denon as Pioneer may be after your crown!

The Denon AVC-A1SE upgrade details will be *officially* released to Gold Dealers within the next couple of days. As soon as they know, we will know too.

    Hi Jim,

It seems to me that you have some expertise about denon amplifiers and the upgrade path for the AVC-A1. Currently I am the proud owner of an AVC-A10se. Do you think there is any possible way to upgrade this Amplifier too?

Sorry, Swami but I'm no expert I just happen to own a Denon AVC-A1SE and am very interested in the upgrade saga. All I can tell you is that I've read that even the brand new AVC-A11SR/AVR-4802 cannot be upgraded. I expect that there will not be an upgrade for your AVC-A10SE just a replacement. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news! Please remember I'm just stating what I've read in other forums regarding upgrades etc. I'm not an insider.

    Regards

If AVC-11SR is not upgradable why does it have a RS232 Port?

What about people who bought their A1SE from non-authorised dealers. Will they be entitled to the upgrade?
Mark
