I have mailed samsung regarding bulb life and cost for the SP-50L7HX and can report the following which is taken directly from the e-mail I recieved from them:

Please note that this e-mail has come from an outbound response system.
Any direct response to this e-mail will not reach the customer care
inbox. If you do need to contact us again please click on the 'contact

    Dear XXXXXX XXXX

Thank you for contacting Samsung Electronics.

With regards your enquiry about the SP-50L7HX. I can advise that the
bulb has an expected life of 30,000 hours and is covered by the 12-month
warranty. As this unit is so new there is not an exact price for a
replacement bulb but we expect it to be in the region of £50.

I hope this has been of some assistance to you. If you do have any
further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Kind Regards

...Sounds promissing indeed but this is a huge life expectancy, anyone have any doubts? Maybe someone else could mail them too and see if they get a different answer.

I know, thats why I have also mailed another area within samsung asking the same question and also why I suggested that someone else ougt to mail them to see. But hey I have it in writing from them and should it last considerably less than 30,000 I will argue that I have been mislead by them into the purchase of the TV based on fictional capability.

Caimbeul, make sure you keep a copy of that email safe. 30,000 hrs. sounds a bit too high considering most other manufacturers are only talking 8000-10000 and even less. I've previously posted a link to a Samsung US web page which quotes only a 8000 hr life, there's no reason to suggest that the US and UK lamps are different.

I emailed them yesterday about bulb life on the SP46L3HX, awaiting a reply. I'll post back here when they reply.

Do these lamps run off the mains voltage, or a lower internal voltage. If the mains, then I hope the bulbs are different ;)

I will definitely keep it safe!

I know 30k is a long time particularly in comparrison to other times quoted by different manufacturers and most likely wrong.

It will be interesting to see what the reply cjgpers is from them(BTW they responded within 24hrs to me)

Caimbeul, what email address did you use. I want to find out from Samsung when they intend releasing the forthcoming SP46L6HX model here in the UK.

Thanks, I'm assuming by the absence of a relevant DLP model in the drop down list you just chose any old one to submit the form OK.

Yes, I just picked what looked like an old RPTV model number, and put the actual model number in the message. Unfortunately Samsung's UK support site has very little on their current models, only old models. For example, no current manuals for download.

Caimbeul, what email address did you contact them on? I don't seem to be getting a reply from Samsung UK on this. All I've had is an automated reply.

Reply from Samsung. Amazed that they're quoting 45000 hours life on the bulb, it's changing my whole perception on DLP running costs.

I'm still not convinced they're right, but having said that you've now got an official response to use in case the lamp fails before the expected time span. I don't know if you want to or not but it may be worth ringing that company they listed to get a price of a new lamp plus they may be in a better position to confirm the life expectancy figures.

What I don't understand is how Samsung can quote lamp lives of 30000 and 45000 hours, and the other manufacturers only quote 6000 - 8000 hours? Over an 8 year lifespan, it's a difference of £900 in lamp costs, making the Samsungs a bargain compared with other DLPs.

Secondly, do any of these DLP sets have an internal hours counter that can display how many hours the bulb has been in use?

Just had a quote back from CPC for the lamp on a SP46L3HX
So, similar price, around the £250 mark.
