BBC - Newsbeat - Film to be distributed via games console for first time

    Pulp - Xbox.com

    1420 HD (£11.81)
    1180 SD (£9.81)

Trailer wasn't the worst thing i've ever seen.

Is this Microsoft testing more waters for the new console and perhaps some sort of digital delivery service?

Heard this on the radio on the way home tonight, I think I heard them say £3 odds to rent.

I think its something like 540 to rent the HD version. That seems pricey considering Skyfall is about the same rental price and that the funniest line in the film appears to be 'I'm going for a ****'!

Buy and download prices seem steep to me.

Think I'll wait for a few reviews to come out before I spend time and money on this. At the moment it looks more hype than substance.

Still think your cheaper buying 2nd hand on here, watch, then punt it back on here again, you do or as near as dammit get your money back:) ok doesn't help if the movie doesn't go to disc but most do.

Sorry, I meant downloadable movies in general, you'd be cheaper buying the 2nd hand disc version on here then selling it on once you'd watched it, I understand that it says this one wont be on disc but for now it's an exception to the rule, whether it'll take off remains to be seen, I still reckon that if they make decent revenue then it'll turn up on disc eventually.

    I see what you mean.

For this example I think the price point has been set to 'let's see what we can get away with'!

For a film like this, no real hype, no real buzz, no real anything to say 'man you must watch this' I would pay a maximum of 4.99 for the DVD SD version and maybe a pound or two more for a blu-ray.

Here I'm being asked for loads more. Well I say me, but really this looks aimed at a teen market who seem unlikely to pay a tenner for a download film.

Microsoft again are trying to be innovative but miss the point and fail on price.

imo this is further pointing at the way MS see the xbox product going.

what ever happened to the good old days of a GAMES console and a PC being the multitasking work horse which can do all that stuff?.

How many people have their PC connected to their lounge TV?

I personally welcome all the new media stuff in one box theory as long as the gaming qualities stay upto scratch. Netflix/streaming etc has been a great addition to the 360 for me

I have my PC hooked up to my TV, it's mainly for the odd game, as for movies I just think that the Blu-ray Disc just gives you that better quality in picture and sound than any streaming service, I don't stream for myself but I do for the kids as there not as critical :D

I'm not sure 'if MS are mucking about trying to source exclusive media content that could be money wasted on gaming content' has much truth to it. M$ are a multi billion dollar company, can't see them being that strict in their budget of not being able to spend on gaming development just because they have sourced a few indie movie exclusives.

I saved £100 odd on my new TV by not going the smart TV route as my 360 already does all that it offered

It is easy to hook up a pc to a tv yes, mine is too. But unless you have a dedicated HTPC that sits by your tv (doubt many do in the grand scheme of things) you aren't going to pick up and move your PC to use it everytime?

I don't want to see mandatory Kinect type setup either, but nothing about the new xbox has been announced yet so we will have to wait and see on that rumour

I dabble in PC gaming nowadays as well as the 360 so i literally bleed gaming code, i do benchmarks and check the rpm of my fans and everything ya know

But do you a have a window in the side of your case with flashing lights and :censored:?

You aint nothing without a window and flashing lights and :censored: :p

As far as media on the xbox goes, i think this is a test bed to see how legitimate a platform it for this sort of thing, personally i wouldn't use it but with the likes of blockbuster dying and lovefilm etc getting more and more popular there is a market for HD movie rentals.

All that keeps ringing in my ears is the words they said when launching the original Xbox, "an xbox in every living room"

    Interesting article btw

*Makes note to get the dremel and christmas fairy lights out when get home*

Hard to believe the change in dash from the original blades to how much stuff is on it now. On the original topic though, I think their pricing structure needs to be a little more appealing (half that price) to buy an Indie film on a digital download service
