I noticed that Lost this evening looked better than ever and took up 6% rather than 5 or 4%. Linowsat reports that the bit rate has increased from 12500 to 18000 over the past week.

Can we hope this is a taste of things to come or could this just be premium for certain "key" broadcasts with lower bitrates on other programes?

Cold case takes up 6 % too and it isn't HD.

The transmission is still HD and will take the same space - but the source is not HD quality.

I nearly left, but from the bit rates I am seeing now - I am staying. Remember get a cheap SKY HD box from the high street...

Where is the cheapest place to get one n why were u going to leave? Was it not that much of a jump from SD?

I see a few on Ebay at a decent price.

Oh it's a huge leap from SD. I've enjoyed the Premier League this season in HD.

Problems I had was the bit rate on SKY Movies HD 2 (Got as low as 6MB!) and lack of HD stuff on SKY One HD.

But with the news that these channels have been moved, and with some films that are coming up - I'm more comitted and feel that extra £10 a month is being well spent. That said, there are still audio drop outs on Live sporting events and some films so hopefully that will be fixed soon.

I believe most people are getting SKY from Currys if you are a "new" customer, however if you have it already then get a box off Ebay or some other independent retailer. Don't buy direct from SKY.

I mainly watch movies and my biggest gripe has been Movies HD 2 which has been comparable in poor quality to Sky One HD, watched Underworld on Saturday night which was on Movies HD2 and it was much better, for a dark film i was expecting big artifacts to be present but they were no where to be seen..

J, I am addressing this question to you as like me you seem to love your HD footie!
I was just wondering, when you watch a game have you noticed that if the team is playing in white, that it seems to be a bit saturated, like it glows a bit - makes it hard on the eyes. Also the lads in the studio, if they have a white shirt on, it just seems a little to bright. I have adjust the contrast and brightness as much as I can without it being way to dark, but it doesn't seem to help. Do you think a lower bit rate could affect this?

Can't save I've noticed... certainly nothing that has taken my attention away from the game. Will double check tomorrow night on the AC Milan game (Assuming SKY are doing the broadcast)

Edit: SKY aren't doing the camera's for AC Milan game so will have to wait for the weekend!

SD. Doesn't matter for my problem. Yes if you could just pay extra attention to any of the white kit (united may be in white, shorts and socks anyway) Oh and the lads in the studio, check out there crisp white shirts, they just always are very bright on my panny! and I wondered if anyone else had noticed (carefull maybe is because you never really looked!)

    Thanks for your help.

    Who knows:)

The contract didn't specify a HD master at the time of negotiation.
The price for a HD master was too high.
A HD master was simply not offered by the distributor.

    Not a 24/Lost/Cold Case/Bones etc fan then!

Sky One is best channel on the go, far better than the likes of ITV etc.

Define decent that isn't already owned by another UK broadcaster and tied to a long term contract and wouldn't cost £20mill a season to win over, even SKY can't afford may of those:)
