This still remains the best blockbuster I've seen this decade along with Interstellar.

Great review Cas , i still can't help in thinking that its not worth an upgrade to UHD with a PQ score of 7 and no 3D Audio mix .

I know you have the soundstage a high score ( 10) but that will be no different from the Standard BD .

Many may not agree ( Nolan himself ) but some of his UHD releases are crying out for a Atmos or DTSX mix for me .

Watched this last night and still thought it was an upgrade from BR release. As reviewer stated it's a mixed bag on picture but when it works it's looks very well indeed.

I thought the sound was superb and came across very well on my system.

The film is a great achievement by Nolan and certainly helps with a couple of watches. I personally recommend the upgrade to UHD disc but don't be expecting massive improvements

I can't agree with this 4K write-up I'm afraid, I think it looks superb. Not A Grade demo material but then not every 4K could be or should be, it should serve the movie first and foremost and this is a terrifically filmic upgrade. Detail adds a genuine amount of 4K refinement, some sections are soft but that really is Nolan's MO when shooting 35mm anamorphic, yet in the main it looks wonderfully fresh and involving. I'm not seeing this wonky HDR either as there's a surprisingly effective amount of HDR brightness (MaxCLL is 1538 nits, for example), and while the black levels have been raised vs the Blu-ray (par for the course for these Nolan 4K remasters) the blacks are so ultra-ultra-crushy on the Inception Blu-ray that I'll defer to the UHD in this case. Viewed on a 65" ZD9.

I've watched every one of the Nolan 4K discs apart from Dunkirk and in terms of upgrades Inception is the stand-out for me. I'm not saying that the IMAX stuff in the other movies doesn't look "better" in terms of eye candy because it does but then that's IMAX for you and the 35mm sections in the other movies don't look as good as this to my eyes. Excellent disc.

like most people i have splashed out on all the Nolan 4k titles...as i think his films are some of the best ever made in the history of modern cinema, i even had the pleasure of seeing hans zimmer earlier this year live, and along with nolan has made some of the best scores of all time to accompany the movies, i will look forward to watching this again and take note of your observations Cas

I see you've woken up the "You must be a troll because you don't agree with me" dickheads at Bluray.com.
Keep up the good work. It's an uphill battle with the morons on there

I hope The Prestige got a good transfer. That's always been by far my favourite Nolan movie. Inception I was never too fussed over.

I love The Prestige, but early non professional YouTube reviews (yeah...I know) say it’s the weakest of all the set. Still buying though.

reviews are helpful but your own eyes on your own system is the only review that matters - for example this looked good to me last night rather than flawed

not demo quality all the way like interstellar but a good disk nonetheless

It is falling as goes unstable and wobbly in the final frames, a dream one goes on continuously smooth.

      But
the kids are in the exact same place as he remembers when he left them wearing the same clothes and haven't aged a day in all the time. Twist ending within a twist ending...

But he is seen many times during the movie using it as his totem.

I think the point is he doesn't care anymore whether it's real or a dream as he doesn't stay to see what happens with the totem

Only to people who don't have working eyes. Prestige 4K is a nice little upgrade, not astonishing but the dynamic range brings back a nice amount of highlight and lowlight detail and it's got this lovely golden hue to it. Black levels are on the weak side but then that's par for the course on these Nolan 4K remasters.

Maybe it's 'cause I've watched Dark Knight again recently, I feel like injecting a little chaos and didn't just want to go along with the forums groupthink re: Suspiria because those Synapse grabs really do look kinda funky to me, and not in a good way. The TLE isn't all the way right either IMO (although Torsten wants to give me a call to discuss it!) but damn, that Italian UHD is still one insanely intense ride with the 2.0 audio - which I must thank you for pointing out to begin with.

I'm sure everyone who's bought whatever version is feeling very secure with their purchases right now (I know I am) but it's funny how in those kinds of threads the shrillness of the replies is directly proportional to the amount of money spent, i.e. the Synapse version costs a heck of a chunk of dough and so I'm not surprised it's being defended to the hilt. Did you order it in the end? If you've received yours, what do you think of it?

I ordered the Synapse version from Diabolik and an HDN version too. One was posted 12 days ago , the other about 9. USPS updates for the Diabolik version end on December 18th but the HDN one shows as being in Langley UK yesterday so hopefully one might turn up.
The caps of the Synapse version I've seen do make it look how I want the film to look. As you know I find the TLE version too subdued. Suspiria always did look very bright and very colourful and as if taking place in an alternate world, or at least VHS, LD , dvd and the UK Bluray looked that way. A shame they didn't make some adjustments of the earlier UK and Oz discs to tone down the brightness in places where it goes way too far.
I do hope the Synapse sound matches that Italian 2 channel mix as so far thats the one that seems to get it all right.
Torsten has said before that his instructions were to create a version that matches how the film originally looked - a preservation copy. It sounds like perhaps adjustments might have been made for the home video versions but I'm not looking for how its supposed to be - I want it to look the way it has when I've enjoyed it.
It all started going wrong with the AB dvd audio and we've had such a long struggle to get it back to how it should look.
I still have the Italian UHD so I'll compare soon hopefully. I must admit that screen cap comparison of the driving rain looking kind of yellow/green on the TLE version against the Synapse look kind of sums up how I feel the TLE version looks in comparison.
I expect the upcoming UK UHD will be the same as the Italian but once we have them all we can choose the version we like and the arguments can stop.

      He
is seen using it but that doesn't mean it's his totem, it was Moll's remember. Some theories say his wedding ring is Dom's totem.
Who knows? That's what's great about this movie, so many potential theories.

someone posted on the instellar review that he/she had turned off inception after 30 mins as being too confusing

maybe as well he/she did not watch all of it then
