We are currently redesigning our lounge and as much as I love my PMC DB1's and centre I'm wondering whether a good set of in-walls are the way to go.

Problem is I cant find prices on any of the PMC/Monitor Audio (I guess Silver or gold) and B&W (no idea of model) and dont know how good these are compared to the stand mount counterparts.

Does anyone have any experiences they could share as 2-channel is a big priority for me but I am happy to compromise with the good lady and move my 2-channel system elsewhere - amp will be Arcam AVR350 and DV29 for source.

    All help gratefully received :)

The only prices I have found for PMC Wafers are 550GBP for the Wafer 1's and 825GBP for the Wafer 2's - each.
Crusty is the man when it comes to PMC with Arcam - I believe that he has both personal and professional experience of these speakers - I'm sure that he will advise accordingly.;)

    Silver In-Wall: £175 each
    Gold In-Ceiling: £250 each
    Gold In-Wall: £300 each

Suitable B&W Speakers would be the following:

    In Wall

    CWM800: £450 pair
    Signature 7NT: £375 each
    Signature 8NT: £1250 each

I'll get back to you with prices for the PMC Wafer In-Walls, I can't quite remember at the moment.

    No, no, no!!!!!
With in walls you lose any flexibility and if for some reason you are not happy with the sound (and I doubt you will be based on my knowledge of you, not the speakers!;)) you are just going to end up with seldom used 'in walls' plus discreet speakers. If you need to go in wall, do so with the surrounds/rears but leave your front 3 alone!:)

If you really love the sound of the DB1+s that musch then the PMC Wafers would be the obivous route to go down.

    The prices are as follows:

    Wafer 1 On-Wall: £1100 pair
    Wafer 2 On-Wall: £1650 pair
    Wafer 1 In-Wall: £650 each

You know me too well fella :D

I hadn't really given the flexibility any consideration and I guess the counter argument is it means I stop messing around cos I cant

We just like the B&W in-ceilings in the bedrooms so I thought to extend that model.

    Its good advice though, cheers!

Gosh - the wafers aren't cheap are they.

I've been thinking of the Wafer2 (on-wall) to use as a centre speaker - anyone listened to these and able to comment on how they match with OB1s and also compare to the CB6 centre?

Also anywhere along M4 that have them in a dem room?

I've got a full 7.1 in wall solution (except sub obviously) and I'm very happy with it, the only issue i had was a lack of bass at the start but that was down to the Denon being faulty.
Other than that I'm over the moon with them, I had M+K's before and for movies these are a match but for 2channel audio these are better.

I have a pair of Wafer 2s for rear speakers, which are used alongside a pair of OB1is and a CB6i. The Wafer 2 are pretty stunning sounding speakers for their size and proportions, and they would be a good compromise if you have not got the room for the CB6i.

If you were to compare the Wafer 2 to the CB6i there would a pretty huge difference though. The Wafer 2s perform roughly at the same level as a TB2+, but for about twice the price. You could argue the Wafers do not offer good value for money, but when you take into account their discrete form factor and the performance combined there is very little to compete with them that does not cost just as much if not more.

We have the Wafer 1s in one of our demo rooms for the front three and they really work pretty well indeed.

You can read a copy of the Hi-Fi Choice review of them by Paul Messenger here:

I've just noticed people refer to the PMC's as on the wall - so they do not mount in the wall, is that right ?
