I bought the new steven seagal movie "In to the sun " the other day.

Dont laugh, its sold out in woolworths!!

Anyway I noticed a problem with the subtitles. A fair bit of the movie is in japanese so you need the subtitles on, however when they go back to speaking english the stay on screen, which means you have to keep turning them on and off all the time. The two options in the dvd menu are descriptive english subtitles and standard. There is no third option like you have when the subtitles are not "burnt on to the film"
    1) has anyone else noticed this,
    2) if not do you think it was just a faulty DVD and I should try another one.
the disc actually froze a couple of times as well and skipt a whole chapter at one point.

Heh I guess not :p I've only seen one Steven Seagull movie and that was enough  Some terrorists take over a boat, ship's chef to the rescue. Good luck in getting your subtitles sorted.

*EDIT* on a more useful note, do you think your DVD lens could do with a clean? and would it be possible to swap the DVD for a another claiming it's faulty? I honestly can't see how that would affect subtitling though  I'm guessing it's a 'feature' of that particular disc.

Plays all other dvds fine steve.

I think it is the way the disc had been mastered. I took it back and said it was faulty, could not replace as it was sold out in woolworths. I could not be botherd to go else where :D

There was a very early version of stargate that was released on dvd that had the same problem with subtitles. You had to turn them on and off manually.

The Region 2 U.K disc & the R4 Australia 'Into The Sun' DVD both have this subtitle issue, If you enjoy the movie and region capantable buy the R1 United States because it has burnt in subtitles for the Japanese speaking parts.

I've also got the problem of in-movie subtitles not workings and like you said its a pain having normal subs on because they stay on even when they speak in English, not happy, really spoilt the film enough for me to switch it off, am going to complain about it :(

    Format: DVD
    Running Time: 96 Min.
    Rated R

    SYNOPSIS

Steven Seagal (Belly of the Beast, Out for a Kill), the free world's most "independent" anti-terrorist agent, is going down under - not to foreign ports but submerged, under the sea, where waves of deceit are set to torpedo his command permanently. Chris Cody (Seagal) is summoned from his military prison cell and promised a presidential pardon - with a hitch. An American Ambassador has been assassinated - by the U.S. Secret Service. Now the C.I.A. wants Cody to uncover and terminate this deadly operation, but they don't tell him the truth. Cody ends up overpowered and trapped beneath the waves but hardly out of his depth.
