scan seem to have the fx-53, but was hoping to buy together (with a load of other bits)......

Checked all my usual sources but no luck I'm afraid. Why not get an A64 3500+ and overclock it and save yourself £350 this will give you performance close to the fx53 imo. I'd also think about getting a 6800 Gt and overclocking it to ultra speeds. The vast majority do clock past ultra (my leadtek does 430/1150 no problem) and most of the ultra cards do not clock much farther than a lot of the GT's. Failing that I've seen a few X800 XT's available that'll give as good if not more than the 6800ultra. A few XT's in stock here:-

    and here:-

    good hunting:)

I'd agree - AMD64 3500+ and a Geforce 6800GT. Save a few hundred quid and not lose too much performance either.

    Xp3500+ - £250
FX-53 - £550 was the cheapest I found, but everyone is out of stock.

    6800GT 256MB - £260
6800 Ultra - £350 was the cheapest after a quick scout, and again everyone seems to be out of stock

So 3500+/6800GT is about £500, but FX-53/6800 Ultra is £900. Looking at the performance tables and knowing how clockable the 3500+ and 6800GT are the FX-53/6800 Ultra combination just isn't worth the extra cash in my opinion.

Cheers for the info, something to certainly think about...

Money is not too much of an issue, my business is going to pay and £300-£400 is not much of a hurdle.

Not really interested in overclocking, call me anal but also like the kudos of having pretty much the ultimate uber PC (exlcuding overclocking)

suppose a wait is on the cards.

Have you built your FX53 system yet. I've hear overclockers will be getting some FX53's in next week but with the numbers of ppl on backorders you may still have to wait a while. I've noticed the price has gone up to £633 too

Managed to source the processor from Dabs at £485 ex vat, much cheaper than OCUK. (think they are losing the edge with their currenr stock level and prices)

Still hunting daily for a 6800 Ultra (was not to keen on the BFG OC) OR x800 XT PE, Scan did have the MSI X800 XT PE in stock but just missed it.

Anyone know when any of these cards are due in at any online retailer?

LOL everyone I've looked at is out of stock of the 6800 Ultra!!!

Either Nvidia are deliberately holding down production levels of the GPU to generate maximum sales potential, or people are buying these things in spades!
