    Morning everyone,

As the title suggests really. I’m ordering an AV amp and rear surrounds today, so I’m looking for an appropriate sub to do the job. My ‘room’ is approximately 5m x 4m, (ceiling is 2.4m high) with the TV and hifi situated on the longer wall. However the actual room itself is larger, around 8.5m x 4m.

Ideally the sub would sit in the corner as it would work in the room better, but if pushed it could move around the corner, which would then only be a couple of metres away from me. Hopefully the image clarifies things a bit. My room has been designed as disabled living accommodation, so access is of paramount importance.

From everything I’ve been reading, cubic meterage of the room is the measurement standard. As such the B.K. xxls200DF is at the top of my list at the moment, but I’m open to suggestions! Budget is up to £400.

Thanks for any ideas, advice or suggestions.

Up your budget slightly and go for the bk xls400, I had the 200 and sold it and went for the xls400.the 400 just has that extra oomph over the 200. In saying that the 200 is very good it’s that further down the line you might just think what if !.

What are your thoughts on the BK Double Gem? It reads very well from what I can tell. I like the fact that it’s a bit narrower so I’ll have more room for wheelchair access when I need it. My only reservation is that it’s an FF design; we have a puppy so I don’t fancy the idea of the grille and speaker being decimated by needle-sharp claws!

Not herd that personally. If you buy a BK sub you can get b grade ones from one of thier ebay stores that say there may be a small mark on the item but there never is! I've never herd someone say they could find any imperfection. They are brand new and mint.

Is it mainly for movies or music?

Sorry, I should have stated that. I’m only planning to use it for movies.

Then IMO you should get a ported sub for better lows. All of the above are sealed apart from the monolith plus.

What colour were you looking for?

It needs to be white to match the surroundings. Thanks again Bone, I really appreciate your input on this. I had an old Yamaha active sub about 20+ years ago, and since then I’ve not bothered with one. Things have moved on apace, so I’m really out of my comfort zone as regards subs nowadays.

The Monolith sounds awesome to be honest, but it’s just too big. The XXLS400 is really about as big as I can go.

Hmm...so an FF and not a DF? I originally thought a DF as it would disperse the sound around the room while not being too specific about placement.

Noob that I am! It’s laminate flooring on a concrete base. I’ve also bought a secondhand Aurelic sub base for whatever my choice is - which I think will certainly be either a BK Double Gem or the XXLS400.

You'll probably be better off with a FF just in case it makes the laminate vibrate. Good luck!

Training, training and more training. Don’t leave them alone for one second in the room where your speakers are until you can trust them.

I have a 21 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback who managed to ignore the speakers with the correct guidance. She hasn’t even looked at the Mono plus that arrived a few weeks ago now.

    Good luck!

I bought an XXLS400 FF from eBay - the seller is colossus something or other. Bought it, paid for it, then a few moments later I saw that he had one in Gloss white, which would be better for my decor (I appreciate that I’m sounding like a right bell end here)! Anyway, I contacted the seller and asked about an exchange option.

Ultimately there’s one on the way so all is good!

Colossus is BK’s b-grade eBay site.

I got my Mono plus from the same channel and you will not be disappointed with the quality of the item given the price saving. Mine has a tiny mark on one area. To see it you have to have your face almost pressed against the sub.

You want to get straight on the phone in the morning and say you want to cancel to buy the other one, great company other than replying to electronic communication.
