Just wanted to know peoples opinions about the various setups for rear speakers in a surround sound system.

Is mounting the rear effects speakers in the ceiling any different than having speakers on stands [roughly at ear level] behind the listener ? Does this affect the sound dramatically ?

I had in wall speakers at ceiling height and absolutely loved having them at that height, in fact I would say that having a rear effects speakers at ear height is far too low and you would be far better to mount them in the ceiling.
