Here's my current arrangement--please see attached:
The room is small, about 10'x14', with large pocket doors on two walls, and a large window behind the couch. No rug. 9' ceiling. I don't think there's a better placement for the TV and couch and chair (could move closer to the couch) that wouldn't have undesirable drawbacks for the room.
Currently I've got the front speakers just on either side of the TV (55"). The speakers are a small surround set by Klipsch. Center is just under the TV and sub to the side. Rears on oppsite sides of the couch in the corners.
The fronts could be moved to the 'X' positions, about equally spaced from the screen, but one would be quite a bit closer to the couch.
At the 'Y' positions they'd be the same distance apart as the rears, and from the couch, but not equally spaced from the screen.
Would either of those be a significant improvement?
    Thanks much for any advice

Given your room layout keep the speakers where they are. They are currently the best place given corner tv placement which is never ideal.

Thanks--I'm surprised; but at least don't need to mess with the wires, etc.
