Looking at buying a 30GB iPod from the US, either via ebay or using my friend in LA (and then fed-exing it back to me) - anything I should be aware of when I do this?

I know someone who did similar but they got stung by customs - it still worked out a bit cheaper than a UK sourced one though.

Also another guy i know had one delivered to a US based friend and then paid them a visit and collected it - a cheap ipod and a holday. Doesn't sound bad!

Thanks for the advice, but I think at this rate I'd may as well just bite the bullet and get one from Apple UK - less hassle I suppose!!

True - and you'll have a proper warranty.

I imported my iPod from the US. Had it replaced by Apple Holland because of a battery problem. Just enter the serial at their site, no problem whatsoever, I had a new iPod in two days!!! Apple offers worldwide guarantee.

Only thing you should be aware of is that the adapter has a US plug. Fortunately, the plug is detachable from the adapter, and you can fit a standard power cable with a small female plug (as used on most small equipment, such as consoles) on one end and a UK/European plug on the other in it.

    That's it!

I have the original 5GB version, about a month after is was released. I do know that even with shipping it was about €100 cheaper than buying one in Holland. Surely you can compare current US and European prices via Apple Store?
