    Hi all,

Hope someone can offer some advice on how to best go about this.

I have recently bought a car over from Ireland (one I couldn't sell at home) with the intention of using it for the little driving I do in London. while I was away with work recently, I stupidly let the insurance expire (It was still insured in Ireland, Irish plates etc), so now I have an Irish reg 02 focus, that is uninsured, untaxed, no MOT sitting outside my flat. I'd like to go about getting this back on the road as soon as I can.

I have spoken to the DVLA and they tell me that I will need ID, UK address, MOT, log book, cost of the road tax. Some of these are no problem, but initial calls to insurance companies are not encouraging.

Summary: How can I insure an Irish reg car so I can get it MOTd, taxed, and get UK plates on it?

Cant understand why you are having problems with the insurance, i went to N. I. and got one and insured it before i picked it up - easy.

What reasons are the company's giving you exactly?

Reasons given that they won't insure ROI plates at a UK address.

Ha, wrong side of the border, can you not go back to the original ROI insurers?

Perhaps just insure for a short period with them.....

I had an Irish Alfa 156 I imported from Ireland insured on its Irish plates for a few months, before I got it transferred onto UK plates.
That was in 2000, maybe things have changed since then.

My missus brought her car back from ROI and insured it using the VIN rather than reg plate, IIRC.
