import duty

    hi all this is probably in the wrong place but i was wondering if someone could help. im looking to get a secondhand meridian dvd player , but its going to be sent from the us. will i be charged any import duty on second hand goods ?

    Yes ypu will!!

    The limit for importing goods is £18, or £34 when declared as a gift. The only way around it is to declare as a gift and mark the value at $50 with no commercial value. Problem there is that you will only have shipping insurance to the value of $50.

    You are not only liable to import duty but 17.5% VAT as well. This is on the total value INC shipping as well.
