IMO, on the current Sony OLED’s HDR is not even worth having. Missing my LG C8 as the Sony 65AX1 that Sony exchanged for my defective one has a banding visible every time you go in and out of black screen and the HDR is horrendous. In fact I believe my EF9500 had Brighter HDR than this display. My advise avoid the A1E and and current Sony OLED and go with LG C8. Yes I have it set up properly, some Sony displays are just horribly dim displays.

Sorry to post this again buy I’m not a fan of Sony and the display I am stuck with.

Sony A1E clips at > 800 nits, so you lose texture details (as per Vincent).

It's an opinion, sure, but you're wrong.

I assume you never owned a plasma? What on EARTH would you have made of those brightness levels.

Dark room, decent eyesight, the Sony's highlights are bright enough to induce squinting. If you need brighter than that perhaps you were a mole in a former life...

If you think it's dim, fair enough. But again, 'hyperbole'...its EVERYWHERE in these AV circles....bloody ridiculous...

Ps. Sounds like you've got a dodgy panel. 'Good'...

I want to but waiting for Sony to exchange my first set i lost my 30 day window. First Sony had acceptable hdr, this one is probably 350 nits. Seriously, you cannot even tell it’s in hdr.

When an LG C8 goes into hdr it’s like a light bulb turns on, very bright

I think LG improved HDR performance with 2018 models but A1E can do decent HDR up to 700-800 nits before it starts clipping and obscuring fine details. Check Vincent's video where he compares 3 2017 OLEDs.

Maybe you should switch to Q9FN.
