I reckon its an epic compendium of quality product.
So how many have you watched?
I think I've watched around 225.
Has anyone watched them all?
i own all of them, except a few e.g. Double Indemnity (even though I saw this on Sky recently). A great selection, with a great show of hands for Hitchcock
For the record, I've watched:-
- 47 out of the top 100
- 46 out of the remaning 150
Thus, I've only seen 93 out of the 250 films in total, or about 1/3rd of the entire list! But I am only 27! So it's not too bad... is it?!
131. I only counted the ones that I was sure I'd seen. (probably a few I saw at a young age, but don't remember anything about them)
It's a strange list and there's a lot of undeserving films that are only there because they came out in the last couple of years. But there are also films in there that I love that wouldn't end up in a proper "best of" list either.
I prefer the AFI Top 100 list to this one.
isn't too bad of a list , seen much worse.
Shawshank Redemption on second made me instantly cringe though, good film
but i can think of at least 99 others in the same class.....
i've seen 187 of them 88 out of the top 100 and 99 out of the rest,
as always with those lists pure taste and what you have seen and what not,
just one example of a film i would include( there are hundreds)
La Bête humaine from 1938 brilliant Jean Renoir film with Jean Gabin, but hardly known.
I always treat these lists with a little bit of cynicism . There are always different arguments from different people about different films. On the whole though, it's a reasonable list. Nice starter for deciding how to build your film collection.
I think I have seen about 206 out of 250.
But have seen loads more that I would put in the list intead of some of the ones in there.
But you can't please all the people all the time
Im missed seeing 7 out of the top 100 mainly foreign films,
Surprised Memento is at 19 I did not think it was all that good but have to admit missing the beginning so that may have something to do with it. Should have had the other Guy Pearce swapped with it i.e. LA Confidential.
Memento is sheer class and deserves a top 50 position imo.
So does that mean you missed the start of the film (and the end of the story) or the end of the film (and the beginning of the story)
I've seen 98 of them. (51 from the top 100). Most of the ones I haven't seen are from before 1970. (It'll be 99 by the end of the week so long as my mate can find his copy of Seven Samurai. Been searching for it for ages).
For the record, I've seen 250 of my own top 250
Thats the thing if you miss the beginning you miss the end of the story, but if you miss the end you miss the reason for the beginning and the reason for the end or is that beginning.
First time I watched Memento, I was flying to New York. As you got to choose what films to watch (and pause them, rewind, fast forward which was so sweet) I was watching as many as I could. Memento was the last one (I hadn't heard of it before). Unfortunatly with 15 mins left of the movie, the plane landed and the movie wasn't in the selection for the return flight.
I had to wait 5 months before I could buy it on dvd. Was very glad that I did.
There's an option on the dvd to watch it 'forwards'. This helps if you get lost in the story. Unfortunatly forwards, the movie is just an average thriller type movie. But watching it the way the director intends, I think it's a great movie.
Definitely recommend you rent, borrow or buy it.
