I was watching The Natural History of the British Isles the other night and there was a bit where the RAF flew Alan Titchmarsh around the south coast, near the white cliffs of Dover. There was one particular shot where they past the cliffs, and the image was panning constantly left to right as they flew. It was quite a long shot, pretty spectacular. However, I found that rather than a smooth panning of image, I had an effect of the image 'juddering' across the screen in small steps. The TV is a JVC AV-28X4 TV, 100Hz. Is this problem due to the 100Hz tube?

No, it did it on my 50Hz Philips as well. Looks like a camera fault.

I didn't see this programme myself, but are you sure it wasn't one of those special effects that some producers like so much? :thumbsdow

Yes, it looked like a badly coded video with stutter.

Not that I watch it (blame the Mrs!!!) but I noticed the very same thing on the opening and closing credits for Emmerdale, where there is an aerial shot flying over trees. I hope it's not my telly.
