Image Annotation software

Apologies if this isnt the right place

Does anyone know of any software I could use to annotate images?. I am currently using Snagit, it has all the features I need but the images used are very high res and the software is slow and buggy.

I need a polygon tool and step count tool which can be user defined in colour, thickness and opacity to do something similar to the image below.

I use Snagit all the time, great tool. Can't say I find it slow and buggy neither on PC nor Mac. I'd just look at fixing the problem personally.

Also the images are high res if your monitor is highres :) But why is that a problem?

I agree it's a great piece of software and nothing else I can find does the job anywhere close but I think that the resolution/ file size may be what is causing the slow down. Images are around 50mb each. Do you have any tips on how to fix the issue?

Have this running on 5 pcs, all same performance.Windows 7 or 10, I5 processors, 8gb ram, gt710 dedicated gfx cards.
have ordered an ssd to see if that helps

What size monitor do you use? Is it a 4K or 5K? It should be similar to an 8mp camera. Perhaps also look at snagit settings for the file format or any stencils that you apply to it .

I've got mine set to export into PNG for when I drag and drop export to here or into PowerPoint for example .

And make certain to use the region features. Running Windows full screen to the take screen shot can give the wrong impression as despite the scaling it is actually super large when using a ultra high resolution monitor.

Oh and yes an SSD helps always when writing to disc.

And perhaps check permissions of the extensions regarding accessibility. I think it uses those hooks to make the awesome full webpage screen shots.

If you still find it slow and buggy you may need to look in the log files. Perhaps it doesn't have the right permissions. Or perhaps it is trying to make a network connection where it can't reach it .

I hope it helps. When I'm back at my desk I'll take a look at how large the snagit files are on my machine .

Thank for all your help. The images being annotated arent screenshots, they are actual photos taken using a dslr (Canon 5d) sometimes multiples stitched together.
