Am now looking at upgrading and moving away from my windows desktop in favour of a Imac. Already have a macbook pro and looking at a companion for it as it is my main machine atm and has been for 12months or so..

What im needing a new machine for is:
    • Photoshop & CC suite - AI, ID, PS, DW, LR etc. Digital design basically as studying graphics but do web work aswell.
    • Emails
    • Research - web browsing etc
    • Accounting later on this year once setup completely.
Basically, my main machine rather than my macbook.

Ive got the room for a 27" and would prefer one I think as also got a Wacom cintiq 22hd coming to use as 2nd monitor but do like the space and upgradability of the 27" for ram.

Speed/storage wise, the 1tb standard HDD would be fine unless tempted to spend the extra but not decided - shame i cant DIY it as got a nice 120gb ssd I could pinch from current windows machine..! :D I find osx quick enough anyway with just the standard 500gb drive in my macbook but am tempted by a fusion drive tbf... Hmm..

But question is.. What CPU config?? I5 3.4ghz or I7 3.5ghz???

Is there much difference between the I5 & the I7?? Both quads right, both 8gb ram for now.. But which one? Any experience would be great as to which choice I make.. :)

Also, fed up of loads of wires for my 5.1 system atm so looking for a decent 2.1 speaker set to accompany the Imac.. Budget for speakers is about £120 if going for the I5 CPU and would drop if did get the I7 spec'd machine..

Sorry for the 1000word essay but hey ho! :D

Budget permitting, go for the i7, not least for future proofing.

For 2.1 sound, we are happy with the HK Soundsticks - version III seems to go for a bargain these days but I cannot personally vouch for it since we use a (really old) version I (USB).

    Thanks Camfire!

Speaker wise, ill take a look. Was looking at the Edifier Prisma Bluetooth 2.1 Speakers. Seem to have decent reviews and I like the fact its bluetooth as after a Ipad mini too to replace my android tablet..

    Cheers again @CamFire

If I was replacing my current Sony active loudspeakers it would be for Focal XS Book active loudspeakers.

Active loudspeakers effectively provide around 3.5 times more of the perceived volume output compared to passive-powered loudspeakers.

I would go for the Acoustic Energy Aego M 2.1 (abit over budget 150) but great speakers or Harman Kardon Soundsticks III if you like the looks
